ABSECON DIARY OF MARGIE ROTH, 1933-37
BY
HARRY F SCHMOLL
During the Great Depression of the 1930s, my mother, Margie Roth, was a showgirl. She kept a diary during those years where she faithfully recorded her secrets. Now you can read all about her adventures in this historical book. You can follow her troupe of entertainers as they tour the circuit from Boston to Washington, DC, hitting the major theater towns in between. Life was a lot different then; times were tough! People sought entertainment in the form of shows and films. Margie went to the latest films, too, and recorded her "movie reviews" in her little book. Also, her story presents a picture of the strong family values that existed during that period .
In many respects, Margie's diary is a love story. Her quest for romance and true love faced many roadblocks and detours. Her search ended when she married my father and settled in Absecon, a town near Atlantic City, New Jersey.
I published this book through Vantage Press, New York, NY. Although the hardback edition is out of print, it is available from many sources. If you do a Google search using the book title, you will find many booksellers throughout the country who have copies
available at very reasonable prices. In addition, you can order a used copy from Amazon.com. A new paperback version can be obtained by visiting the AuthorHouse website. Sometimes you can bid on a copy of the Absecon Diary on eBay. Good luck in finding "Margie"!
